On Thursday, June 10, 2010, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the Overland Park Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit will conduct Directed Enforcement at the intersection of I-435 Highway and Metcalf. The Directed Enforcement will focus on red light violations.
In 2009, more accidents occurred at the intersection of I-435 Highway and Metcalf than any other location in the City of Overland Park. Last year, a total of 88 accidents occurred at this intersection. According to Sgt. Scott Ferguson, a supervisor with the department's Traffic Safety Unit, drivers who run red lights pose a significant threat to other motorists.
The fine for running a red light is $120.00.
