Telephone Scam in Overland Park

The Overland Park Police want to alert citizens to a telephone scam.

On June 10, 2010 four Overland Park residents have called the police department to advise they have received telephone calls stating they have won a car, the lottery, or large sum of money. All the resident had to do was to send money to claim their winnings.

The scammers requested money to be sent via Western Union or UPS to location such as Chicago, Houston or Florida. None of the Overland Park residents fell for the scam. No money was sent.

All residents said the caller spoke with a heavy accent, possible Middle Eastern accent.

Everyone should be aware of this type of telephone scam and not respond to the request for money.
