Arrests Made in Open Garage Door Burglaries

On July 7, 2010, Overland Park Police Detectives arrested two juveniles in connection with a series of open garage door burglaries that have occurred in Overland Park and Lenexa. The two suspects, 16 and 17 years of age have been actively stealing items from open garages since early June. Investigation led Detectives to an apartment complex near 119th & Quivira, where the suspects were found in a garage, packaging up stolen items which they had sold on eBay.

Inside the garage Police recovered over 20 sets of golf clubs, a paddle boat, lawn care equipment, sports equipment and other stolen property. Much of this property has already been linked to previous offense reports filed in Overland Park and Lenexa, and Police are working to identify the owners of the property so it can be returned to them. Reports are being submitted to the Johnson County District Attorney for the filing of charges.

While we are happy to recover this property and solve these offenses, we would continue to urge residents to keep their garage doors closed to help prevent these crimes of opportunity.
