Daytime House Burglars Caught

On Friday July 30 at 9:30 a.m., Overland Park Officers were dispatched to a home in the 8600 block of West 71st street on a burglary in progress. The crime unfolded when one of the home owners was returning from jogging and noticed a strange SUV in his driveway and an unknown man beating on his front door.

The jogger/homeowner immediately called his roommate who was still asleep inside the house and told him what was happening. The roommate awoke and heard the noise at the door. He then went to the front door peaked out and saw a stranger with a tire iron in his hand. The roommate made a noise from inside the house which the burglary heard and ran to the awaiting getaway SUV.

The initial responding officer broadcast a description of the burglary suspects and their car. Another officer heard the formation and spotted the SUV on Shawnee Mission Parkway at Craig. The vehicle was stopped and the investigation continued which lead to enough Probable Cause to arrest both men for Aggravated Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property. Both men are from Tennessee and were working construction in the area. They are now in the Johnson County Adult Detention Center waiting formal charging for their crimes.
