This Friday night a DUI checkpoint will be set up in Overland Park. More than 30 officers from Overland Park, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and officers from other cities routinely assist in the checkpoint.
More than 500 vehicles passed through the last checkpoint. Thirty-eight drivers were tested and eight were cited for driving under the influence, including a minor in possession of alcohol.
If a person is convicted of DUI, a first time offender may be assessed a $500 minimum court fine, excluding other court costs. There are other expenses a person could incur, but not to the court or city. This may include hiring a lawyer, increased insurance rate, treatment cost and more, which may amount to as much as $10,000.
Driving impaired is wrong and dangerous to everyone.
