Results of the Quivira Road Accident Reduction Initiative

Overland Park Officers from the Traffic Safety, the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving, and the Tactical Operations Units participated in the initiative. The officers concentrated their efforts on nine intersections between 95th Street and 151st Street.

A total of 187 vehicles were stopped and 260 citations were issued for various violations including speeding, unsafe lane changes, improper turns, failure to signal movement, red light violations, following too closely, and failure to comply with seat belt laws.

The Department’s Traffic Safety Unit plans to conduct additional Accident Reduction Initiatives throughout Overland Park to address traffic violations which are known to be contributing factors in vehicle accidents.
