On Friday, May 6, 2011, from 11:00 pm to 2:00 am, the Overland Park Police Department will conduct its first DUI Check Lane of 2011. All drivers entering the check lane will be briefly interviewed. Drivers who appear to be impaired will be asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Under Kansas law, a driver whose Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is .08 or higher is considered to be Driving Under the Influence.
The Overland Park Police Department places a high priority on apprehending impaired drivers. Last year, Overland Park officers arrested 950 drivers for Driving Under the Influence. Additional check lanes are scheduled throughout the next several months. Please don't drink and drive. If you plan on drinking, make sure you have a sober designated driver.
