Good Samaritan Sustains Facial Injury

They say no good deed goes unpunished, and that certainly was the case for an Overland Park visitor. As he was driving in the area of 75th and Lamar on June 21, 2011, he saw a woman chasing a black border collie down the street. He grabbed a leash from his car and joined the pursuit.

When he finally caught up with the canine, he grabbed its collar and attempted to attach the leash. At that moment, the dog whipped his head around and bit the man in the face, causing serious injuries. Although not life-threatening, the bites will require surgery.

With more people outdoors in the summer weather, please keep in mind animal behavior is sometimes unpredictable. Use caution when approaching strange animals, even if the owners insist they are friendly.

Pet owners, by law, must keep their animals on a leash while walking them. Taking responsibility for your own safety and being a responsible pet owner will prevent painful bites.
