On June 20, 2011, at 5p.m., officers responded to a burglary at a residence south of 145th Street. They were advised juveniles entered a garage, were scared off by the homeowner, and left in a newer model Ford Explorer.
The victim reported he was inside his garage when he noticed some juveniles walking around in the street. He didn`t think much of it until, out of the corner of his eye, he saw two of them walk into his garage. They got about five steps in before the homeowner yelled at them. They ran to a newer model Ford Explorer and headed north towards 143rd St. The victim described the Explorer as maroon with running boards and a JOCO KS tag.
Nothing was stolen from the home. The driver of the Explorer was described as having dark, curly hair and appeared to be 14-16 years of age.
The department continues to see these open garage door burglaries. As you can see from the above event, they occur at all hours. Please keep your garage doors closed if you are not in the immediate area. Remove car keys and purses from vehicles housed in the garage, to be on the safe side. “Beer refrigerators” are a big temptation for adolescents during the summer months.
So far this year, the Police Department has taken over 32 burglary reports involving open garage doors.
