Reduction in Accidents through May of 2012

The Overland Park Police Department has made a proactive effort to reduce the number of accidents on our roadways through various high-visibility enforcement campaigns.

The results through the first five months of 2012 have been encouraging so far, and we hope that trend will continue. As you can see from the chart below, total accident reports have gone down 4.15% compared to this time last year. Non-injury accidents have decreased by 6.73%. The numbers of injury accidents have increased overall, but we’re determined to see those numbers go down during the next few months.

Although we’ve dedicated extra resources to support these enforcement efforts, we’ve actually written about ten percent fewer traffic citations compared to the same time frame last year.

The goal of our enforcement activity is to save lives by keeping the roadways safe for all those who travel upon them. These high-visibility campaigns will continue to occur on a frequent basis.
