Child Passenger Seat Safety

According to the National Highway Travel Survey (NHTS), “Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children from 3 to 14 years old.”

Did you know that seven out of every ten car seats are improperly installed? With that in mind, it’s our responsibility as parents to make sure our children are properly restrained each and every time they ride in a vehicle.

On the first Wednesday of every month, the Overland Park Police Department conducts free child car seat safety inspections. These inspections are offered from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and will take approximately thirty minutes to complete.

A certified child passenger safety technician will make sure your seat is properly installed and will teach you how to do it yourself in the future.
