Victim’s Vehicle Taken as it was Warming Up in Driveway

Yesterday morning around 7:45 in the 7300 Block of Walmer Street, the victim started her car so it could warm up before she left for work. She left it unlocked as she went inside to get her purse. When she returned a few minutes later it was gone.

This is just another example of how quickly your car can be stolen. In this case there was no one in the area who heard or saw anything, thus reducing the likelihood that we’ll apprehend the suspect and recover the vehicle in a short amount of time.

Information released by the FBI indicates a vehicle is stolen every 43 seconds in the United States and leaving a vehicle unattended with the keys in it makes it an easier target for auto thieves. According to auto makers, today’s vehicles no longer need to be warmed up in order to run efficiently, but is obviously done as a matter of comfort and convenience.

No one ever thinks it’s going to happen to them until it’s too late. Additionally, if you leave the keys inside a running vehicle and it’s stolen, there’s a good chance the insurance company may deny your claim. DON’T TAKE A CHANCE!
