Chief Douglass was appointed Chief of Police on March 1, 1996. His career began with the Overland Park Police Department in February, 1973 and during that time he has served in virtually every area and held command in every area of the Police Department. He currently serves as co-chair of the National Advisory Committee for the Regional Computer Forensic Lab System. He has held many other national and regional posts in law enforcement.
During the two-day period of snowfall last week, the Overland Park Police Department took a total of 26 accidents in the city limits. During this last snow storm we had only ten reports.

The lower number can be attributed to several different factors: the timing of this storm as compared to last week; people were more prepared this time around. The lessons learned from the last storm were apparent as many people stayed home and allowed the snowplows to do their job without having to maneuver around stuck or abandoned vehicles.
The hard work and effort displayed by the employees of this city, combined with the selfless acts demonstrated by its citizens helped to lessen this storms impact.
