His Wife Told Him So

Heard the expression, “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”?  Not too long ago one of our citizens fell victim to the same crime twice.  His vehicle was burglarized and, according to him, his wife told him he needed to start locking his vehicle up.  The first time he chose not to make a report.  A few weeks later, he found himself a victim of auto burglary again.  This time he did make a report.  He told the reporting officer that the first time it happened his wife told him that he needed to start locking the doors.

While it is not always the case, auto burglary is one of those crimes that usually is a crime of opportunity.  Removing those goodies from your vehicle and locking it will limit the opportunity and the thieves will move on to the next target.

In the case of our two-time victim, it probably was pretty painful to be a victim of the same crime twice, but not nearly as painful as having to admit his wife was right.
