Heard of ding-dong-ditching? You know, when someone rings your door bell or knocks on the door and then takes off running before you can get there to answer it. That’s probably a bit annoying for most, especially when you are in the middle of doing something or, worse, enjoying a deep sleep. Well, this weekend one Overland Park family learned a whole new form of ding-dong-ditching.
Early Saturday morning one family found the front of their home damaged from an apparent hit and run accident. They said they heard what sounded like thunder over night, but did not get up to investigate at that time. It wasn’t until one of the family went out for the morning that they found the damage to their garage.
Evidence at the scene showed a vehicle was southbound on Farley in the 10400 block when it left the roadway and drove through the yard of the home before striking the garage. It moved the wall of the garage about 2 feet. Parts left at the scene were identified to belong to a red, 2005 to 2009, Ford Mustang.
Thankfully, no one in the home was injured. A city inspector was called to confirm the home remains structurally sound for occupancy.
The identity of the driver is unknown at this time and the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Overland Park Police 913-895-6300.
