This evening we are conducting another DUI Check Lane in the City of Overland Park. The check lane is a DUI enforcement tool we use a few times a year and it is done with the assistance of Kansas Highway Patrol and several different city and county agencies.
Each driver who enters the check lane will be greeted by an officer or trooper and given information on potential DUI penalties. Those drivers who appear to be impaired by alcohol and/or drugs will be asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests and take a preliminary breath test.
Drivers who fail the field sobriety tests may be asked to submit to further testing of breath, blood or urine and may be charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs.
As always, drivers are encouraged to find a sober ride home if they choose to go out and drink. Just another friendly reminder that we continue to take the task of DUI reduction seriously.
