The Overland Park Police Department is conducting a DUI Saturation Patrol on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. It is the police department’s goal to reduce alcohol related auto accidents and discourage impaired driving within its community.
The DUI Saturation Patrol will begin at 10:00 PM, and the enforcement will not
end until 2:00 AM. The Traffic Safety Unit will hold a briefing at the Myron E.
Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch, prior to initiating the enforcement.
Through November of this year, 617 tickets have been issued to drivers
suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while
operating a vehicle.
Please take a few moments to think twice before you get behind the wheel after
having a few too many drinks. Making the decision to drive while under the
influence puts you at risk, as well as others whose paths you may cross.
A court fine for driving under the influence costs around $500. However, that
single ticket may be way more costly because of other non-city associated
expenses including hiring an attorney, the possibility of lost wages, treatment
costs and increased automobile insurance due to high-risk issues. Overland Park
Municipal Court officials have estimated total dui-related expenses can be as
high as $10,000.
Be smart on New Year’s Eve. Don’t drink and drive. If you must drink, designate
someone to drive who will not be consuming alcohol or drugs.
